COMMUNITY PORTRAIT EVENT and DINNER
An Evening of Reciprocal Portraits:  A community adventure in the artosphere!

DATE and TIME:
Saturday, September 28, 2024
5-8 pm

LOCATION:
Mt. Airy Art Garage

7054 Germantown Avenue
Philadelphia, PA 19119

ABOUT THIS EVENT:

You are invited to an evening community portrait event and dinner in connection with MAAG's concurrent gallery show, Stop the World/Melt with You: The Reciprocal Portrait Project. The gallery show includes 65 pairs of portraits from the ongoing Reciprocal Portrait Project. Participants in the community portrait event will have the opportunity to create portraits following the same method, and using the same materials, as those on display in the gallery. Not only will you gain a deeper understanding of the work on view, but you will also enjoy a rare opportunity to engage in the sort of close observation which removes the scales from our eyes and heightens our ability to see and appreciate the beauty of our fellow humans. Plus a celebratory meal afterwards!

No artistic training? Haven't held a brush since grade school? You are specifically welcomed into this experience! This event is for everyone.

Feeling a bit of trepidation? Ego telling you, "NO WAY!!"? That is just the experience getting underway! A little nervousness is natural, but I promise that you are going to love this.

See you there.
love, Shannon

FAQs

What do I need to bring?
Just yourself! (And your openness to the experience.) Supplies, portrait partners, and gentle guidance will be provided. Also dinner and drinks!

May I bring a friend/family member/neighbor/stranger to be my portrait partner?
Yes! Partners will be provided if needed, but yes--you are welcome to attend and participate as a pair. I won't make you change dance partners.

Will I be able to take my painting home?
Yes! Your painting will be yours. It's my hope that all the work generated at the community portrait event will join the exhibit in the gallery for the rest of the show (on view through Saturday, October 5), after which you may claim your piece.

Is the venue accessible?
Yes! Fully accessible!

Where should I park?
There is street parking in the neighborhood as well as a large lot down the block at the Acme market. Please do not park on the street on West Mount Pleasant due to the above-average risk of being side-swiped by passing cars. I don't want your experience tarnished by anything like that.

If I am unable to attend, will I be refunded?
Alas, no refunds will be possible as I will have already spent your contribution on paint brushes, wine, and fancy cheese. However, you are more than welcome to pass your tickets to a friend or neighbor to attend in your stead.
