Summer Postcard(s)

Updated: Dec 10, 2019

Greetings from the end of another Summer of Adventure. A few highlights...

1.

Naturally Abstract

Escape to Eastham:

Family time at the beach and the house; alone time on my bike and with my paints.

The National Seashore beaches on the upper, outer Cape where the Great White signage is up a notch from last summer.

Seals in the waves and smooth, beautifully colored rocks in the breaks.

2.

Into Plein Air

In the days following my 44th birthday (Midlife: it's real), I went to the woods to Live More Deeply. And paint and Suck all the Marrow out of Life.

The kindest, most generous people hosted me for several days near Mount Ascutney in central Vermont.

I worked, mostly outside, mostly at the foot of the property.

I made paintings in, around, and of this cabin.

3.

Good Times, Great Lakes

It was "Vamos a la Playa" ("Loona version!" they chanted from the back seat) all the way there;

John Prine's "Summer's End" all the way home.

Madeline Island. That lake really is Superior. A small assemblage of space scientists heightened the Big Picture perspective.

Jupiter with 4 moons and Saturn with its rings. The moon was full and pink on the last evening.

My sister had the good sense to direct a commemorative screen printing project. A new medium for me. Editioning the print with my dad's dedicated assistance was a peak experience.
